Tasks Stop running - require manual re-start
Jan 26th, 2010, 7:46pm

I am running WatchFTP 2.1.9.28 on a windows server 2003

I have 14 separate tasks that load as windows services automatically.

Occassionaly i have to go into WatchFtp and restart some of the services for some reason were started at boot up, but overtime stop for some reason.

This is only happens from a few of the 14 tasks.

Hello Phil,

Hard to tell for sure what is happening, but I guess there were multiple FTP errors in a short time and the task just "gave up". There are a few (currently undocumented) settings that influence how WatchFTP reacts upon FTP errors described in this blogpost:
http://watchdirftp.blogspot.com/2008/10/undocumented-watchftp-stops-after-10.htm...

Easier is to install the latest beta ( http://www.watchftp.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1247129648 ) that has a new options window where you can configure those timing issues.

Or just wait a bit, the beta will be the official release in a few days.

Gert

Thank you for the response
Beings all 14 tasks are connecting to the same server, not sure if this is the cause or not.

I will modify the config file for the task that seems to most often stop and see if that makes any difference.

Hi Gert.
Been using WatchDir for years, thanks.
Now evaluating WatchFTP.
Just ran into the same issue as above.
The server being watched went down and WatchFTP stopped trying after 10 attempts.
Read the blog and appreciate the undocumented info.

Important Request: email notification of failure to connect.
This gives peace of mind that WatchFTP is not only monitoring 24/7, but will give a shout-out if things fail.

Thank you,
Dave

Hello David,

We plan to release the current beta this weekend. After that we look at implementing new functionality.
