Title: WatchFTP has stopped downloading
Post by Andy on Mar 9th, 2011, 6:07pm

Hi.  I have been using the trail quite successfully for a few days but the program seem to have stopped downloading any more new files.

Firstly, is there a transfer limit on the trial version?

It is creating the local target directories but is not downloading any contents of those folders. I have tried deleting and re-creating the task and I have just downloaded and tried the bet version.

I have manually added and moved files around on the server from where I download the files but nothing seems to make a difference. A rival program (ableftp) appears to be downloading ok but I hate the Java interface and would prefer to use your program. Manual ftp downloads are also ok.

Any Suggestions?

I have answered my own question...  ;D

Some bright spark had put a colon : in the directory name so that the directory scan was falling over every time it got to it and not moving onto the next directory.

Hopefully this is something you can code for in future? You know, people are dumb!  ;)

Hello Andy,

That was quick ;-)

Can you tell me exactly where the colon was entered?
In the WatchFTP settings somewhere (where?) or in a file or directory-name on the FTP server.

You are correct, WF should check against this, but (tong-in-cheek, don't be offended)....

Love the quote!

The colon was the 5th character in the directory name and 2 of the file names on the source server.

I was slow in spotting that although watchFTP was creating empty local folders ready to download other items on the server it did not create one with a colon in it - Which of course it cannot as I am running Windows locally.

The server is running CentOS 5.

As is usually the case I posted here in desperation after trying to find the problem for the last 4 hours - then spot it myself 30 seconds after posting... Isn't that always the way???

Let me know if you want a copy of logs or anything before I zap the offending files into oblivion.

It would be useful if you can email me those logs (see my signature).

On the other hand, besides ":", there are lots of characters allowed on Unix but forbidden on Windows. I probably need to check for those before trying to download.
